Karnex

RMM software for monitoring, automation and support

Karnex is remote monitoring and management (RMM) software for IT teams and MSPs. Install the agent once and each Windows or Linux computer stays in your fleet with its inventory, software, updates and security status, while monitors, patch policies, software deployment, scripts and reports keep it healthy. Remote support is built in, so when something needs a person, you're one click from the screen.

Why teams need this

Remote support fixes the problem in front of you. RMM is what stops the next hundred: knowing which machines are missing updates, which disk is about to fill, which service stopped overnight, and fixing them on every computer at once instead of one at a time. Doing that with separate tools means separate agents, separate consoles and a lot of copying between them.

How Karnex handles it

The Karnex agent runs as a service on each computer and connects out to Karnex, so there are no inbound ports or VPN to set up. From the web console you see every machine with its details, and the work happens in the background without opening a session or interrupting the person at the computer.

Included on every plan: remote access, background tools (processes and services, files, registry, event log, a remote command line), saved scripts, inventory, Wake-on-LAN, and monitoring with email alerts when a machine goes offline, runs short of disk space, or its CPU or memory runs high.

The RMM Automation add-on adds the fleet-wide tools:

  • Patch policies for Windows and Linux: which updates to approve, maintenance windows, restarts, and a compliance view of what's still missing.
  • Software deployment and third-party app updates across many machines.
  • Automation: scripts on a schedule (hourly to monthly, in the time zone you choose) and self-healing rules that act when a monitor fires.
  • Service and event monitors, network devices over SNMP, and network discovery.
  • Reports built from what Karnex already knows, such as patch compliance and inventory.
  • IT documentation with a password vault, kept next to the computers it describes.

RMM Automation covers a set number of machines per seat, with more in packs. See pricing.

Key capabilities

  • Windows and Linux in one console. On Linux, Software lists installed packages, Updates shows what apt, dnf/yum or zypper has waiting (security updates marked), and Security shows the firewall, disk encryption, AppArmor or SELinux and SSH settings.
  • Endpoint Security add-on: rotate each computer's local admin password, back up BitLocker recovery keys, and see which machines pass your compliance checks.
  • Fleet add-ons: Fleet Policies with drift reports, Vulnerability Scanning (Windows updates and installed software matched against known vulnerabilities, with CISA KEV flags), Backup Monitoring and Analytics.
  • Staged agent updates: update the agent a few computers at a time, and stop if one doesn't come back.
  • Remote support built in: end-to-end encrypted remote desktop, Quick Assist and file transfer. See remote support software.

Security and deployment

Agents and Viewers only install updates signed by Karnex. Each computer has its own identity key. Remote desktop sessions are end-to-end encrypted between the agent and the technician's Viewer; management actions such as commands and scripts are carried by Karnex over TLS and recorded in the audit log, with every session, command and admin change. Read more on the secure remote desktop page.

Deploy the agent with a personalized installer, a Linux command, a list of ready-to-run installer links for a bulk rollout, or a silent install command for your deployment tool. The agent supports Windows 7 SP1 and later, Windows Server, and Linux on Intel/AMD or ARM, including Raspberry Pi.

Who this is for

  • IT teams that want patching, monitoring and support without running their own servers.
  • MSPs managing many clients' computers. See Karnex for MSPs.
  • Small businesses with one IT person: the Solo plan covers a set number of machines per seat.
